Desyn Masiello
ЗА МЕН
Born and raised in London Desyn was exposed to the acid house and rave movement in his teens and a devoted regular at the legendary spiral tribe and traveller raves around the UK at that time. Desyn was attracted to the more off-road approach to the rave scene, trooping around fields at 3am, dodging police road blocks and actually playing a part in running some of the events himself too. ‛Ive always had a rebellious nature, and there was this attraction to the outdoor parties that I was drawn too more so than the commercial side of the scene. There was a sense of freedom and being outside of the law at the traveler do’s, and that the drive to be there and the organization behind them was more about dance, something more tribal and untouched by our money driven society, it touched me more deeply than going out to a west-end club or the likes. Musically this feeling has always driven me too, my sound is best described as hedonistic, but always striving to touch you somewhere a lot deeper inside.‛ He bought his first set of turntables in 1990 while working for 6 years in a suit and tie job, but his passion and real love in life was always DJing. His DJ career all began with 1 mix CD that he took a considerable amount of time and love preparing, he sent it out to 100 random people that requested the CD from a post that Desyn put out onto various Internet message boards. After a few months the CD had been passed all around the world and ended up on the laps of various promoters and DJs. The CD made such an impression that Desyn, although completely unknown at the time began to get international gig requests. From his first international gigs in Helsinki Finland 2001, to his chaotic schedule today; it all sparked off from that one mix CD. 2002 saw Desyn’s global presence blossom; with Deep Dish’s exclusive US booking agency, Bullitt, signing him up to their US roster. Kicking off the year with a cover mount CD for DJ Magazine (WMC issue), headlining at Glastonbury dance tent, and performing notable 6-hour sets around the globe and guesting in venues such as Cream (Liverpool), Gatecrasher and Renaissance (Worldwide). During 2003 Desyn released his first commercial mix CD ’In House We Trust 3’ (Yoshitoshi) and continued to develop his two co-owned record labels Alternative Route and Sexonwax. With the first release on Alternative Route being the mighty KC Flightt ’VOICES’ and one of the most recent and successful releases being the gorgeous and emotive ‛Changes‛ by Chris Lake. 2003 saw the launch of Desyn’s second label SEXONWAX co-owned with Omid 16B. The label has already gained international reputation for superb releases from dance legends MR C and Danny Howells (www.sexonwax.com). 2004 saw Desyn’s first productions emmerge. His first two singles with co-idiots Omid 16b and Leon Roberts, The Idiots ’Feel The Rush’ and ’Keep it Real’ (Sexonwax) were featured on Danny Howells’ 24/7 Compilation. His first remix (Solar Plexus) is exhibited on Deep Dish’s Global Underground (025). Desyn has completed remixes and edits for Yoshitoshi - Brother Brown’s ’King’s of Tomorrow’, Eddie Amador’s ’Psycho Ex-girlfriend’ and the merging of ’Loudeast and Luzon’. The Idiots produced ’Dogman’, remixed Danny Howell’s, ’Spikes’ (Sexonwax) as well as two remixes.. of ’Sharpside’, Belgian Resistance (Renaissance). In 2004 and 2005 Desyn released two mix compilations on Bedrock and Balance series respectively. ‛The compilations are a good reflection of my vision of dance music at the time and the tracks I was feeling the most back then, both at home and in the clubs. My main aim with any DJ mix is to leave an impression on the listener that brings out something in them they have not felt before, a unique message. The way tracks communicate and live together ‛in a mix‛ and the synergy of the mix as a whole is sometimes more expressive than the tracks themselves, it is the transitions and marriage of the tracks that can sometimes bring out the strongest messages in music, this is what I feel is the mysterious and magical side to DJing that has always fascinated. You can weave an epic story of emotions like this.‛ 2006 saw a new focus for Desyn as he joined forces with old friends Omid16B & Demi to create an uber-cool DJ alliance. Drawing inspiration from their rich musical heritage, and direction from their beloved Deeper Substance and Sexonwax music labels, SOS was born of a desire to create synergy and to see what is really possible when three heads are focused together. ‛SOS came together organically and we are letting it continue like that with a no rules approach to what we are doing, and see where the music takes us.‛ SOS Balance 013 is out on EQ recordings in April 2008 worldwide. http://www.myspace.com/djdesynmasiello
